Drying meat: How to make dried meat yourself
When you dry meat, you get a delicious snack. Dried meat not only tastes good, but can also be kept for a long time. We show you how you can easily make it yourself.
Drying meat: this is how it works
To produce dried meat, you only need quality meat from the butcher as well as salt and pepper.
- Take a kilogram of beef and cut it into thin strips with a sharp knife.
- Place the strips on a tray lined with baking paper and season generously with pepper and salt.
- Place the baking sheet in the oven, at about 40 to 50 degrees. Leave the door slightly open so that the moisture can escape from the meat. For example, clamp a wooden spoon in the door.
- Depending on how thick or thin you have cut the meat, you must pay attention to when all the moisture has escaped from the meat. As a rule, the meat must be dried at 50 degrees Celsius for about six to eight hours.
- Tip : You can alternatively produce dried meat with a dehydrator or smoker.
Season and marinate the dried meat
Depending on your taste, you can not only season the meat with salt and pepper, but also put it in a marinade or use different spices.
- If you marinate the meat, it gets more flavor. You can take the spices that you like best.
- Mix four tablespoons of your favorite sauce with three tablespoons of a sauce for steaks.
- Put the marinade on the meat and let it stand in the fridge overnight. Note that the meat must not drip with marinade.
- Before you put the meat in the oven, you should dab it with a kitchen towel.
- Tip : If you dry the meat in a dehydrator, you can, for example, add smoked wood to get more flavor in the meat.
