Missed Flixbus - you can do that now
If you missed your Flixbus, that's pretty annoying. In our article we show you what options you have in such a case.
You can do that if you missed the Flixbus
If you arrive late at the bus stop and the bus has already left, you unfortunately have few options. It looks different if it is a connection.
- In principle, you should always try to reach the place of departure on time. After the bus has left, all you have to do is book a new connection or switch to another mode of transport. An ICE connection, for example, is usually not only significantly more expensive, you also stay seated at the cost of the booked Flixbus trip.
- But you don't have to let it get that far. Because you can cancel the bus ticket up to 15 minutes before departure. So if you can foresee that you won't be at the bus stop in time, just cancel the trip. You will receive a voucher from Flixbus that you can use for a new booking. Cancellation shortly before departure costs 5 euros per person. You can read the detailed fee rates on the Flixbus website.
- If you have booked a transfer connection and miss the connecting bus, because the feeder bus is late, the situation looks a little different. Because even when traveling with long-distance buses, you are entitled to certain benefits. These are regulated in the EU regulation on passenger rights in bus and coach transport and differ somewhat from the rights in rail transport.
- From a delay of 120 minutes, Flixbus must offer you a journey with a changed route at no extra charge or the reimbursement of the full ticket price and the fastest possible return transport to the point of departure. You have the choice.
- With a waiting time of 90 minutes and more, you are also entitled to free services such as snacks, refreshments and meals. If an overnight stay becomes necessary, the long-distance bus company has to bear the costs of up to 80 euros.
- Normally you will have to make an advance payment. To assert your claims, first complain directly to Flixbus. You can find the contact details and detailed information on passenger rights on the Flixbus website.
- If the bus company does not react, you can turn on the next instance. This is the Federal Railway Authority. It acts as the national enforcement agency for passenger rights for rail, bus and ship travelers. A corresponding complaint form can be downloaded from the EBA homepage.
- Remember to always secure evidence in case of problems for which Flixbus is responsible. Let failures and delays be confirmed and take pictures of departure and notice boards or take screenshots.
