Floss Dance: We explain the internet trend
Floss dance is one of the numerous Internet trends from the USA. In this practical tip, we will tell you how the trend came about and how floss dance works.
Floss dance: that's behind the internet trend
Shortly after the Dab Dance became famous, the Floss Dance also developed. However, this dance is somewhat more complex.
- During the Floss Dance, the hands are clenched into fists, the hips are moved in one direction and the arms stretched downwards in the other direction. The hips and arms then move in the opposite direction, while one arm leads in front and one behind the body.
- This sequence of movements is a bit complicated at first, but it is quickly learned. The movement is carried out slowly and then faster and faster. As the pace increases, coordination becomes significantly more difficult, so that only experienced dancers can perform the Floss Dance at a fast pace.
- The Floss Dance was invented by a 15-year-old American who first published the dance on Instagram under the name "backpack kid". Dance only made the rounds on the Internet before it became a cult on television and at sporting events.
So the dance became a viral hit
What started as an amusing video on Instagram spread like wildfire in a few days.
- The Floss Dance was not only danced on social media such as Instagram, Snapchat and Tik Tok (formerly Musical.ly), but was also performed by footballers after the touchdown. The popular online game "Fortnite" also introduced dancing for its own characters.
- The dance spread so rapidly that the inventor was invited to many talk shows. Russell Horning peaked with his self-created trend when he performed the dance with Katy Perry on stage.
Step by step: how does the Floss Dance work?
If you want to dance the Floss Dance yourself and are still having a hard time, the following instructions will help. For easier understanding, you should also watch the video above on YouTube.
- Let any music run in the background and stand upright. Push your knees lightly through.
- Clench your hands into fists and let your arms hang loosely down.
- Swing the squeezed arms to the right and swing the arms back to the center of the body, with the right arm swinging long at the back and the left arm up to the stomach.
- Swing your arms completely out to the right and then both arms in front of your body all the way to the left.
- Now the left arm goes behind the body and the right arm in front of the stomach. Swing your arms out to the left and switch sides again.
- After a while, the movement becomes fluid. Start swinging your hips in opposite directions.
- With a little more or less tension in the knees, you can bring further dynamics to the Floss Dance.
