Flight mode: radiation from your cell phone - you need to know that
To protect themselves from radiation, cell phones are often put into flight mode at night. This practical tip will tell you whether your cell phone is really completely free of radiation in this state.
Activated flight mode significantly reduces the radiation from your smartphone
- If you put your phone in flight mode, its transmitter antenna will be deactivated. As a result, your smartphone can no longer dial into the cell phone network and it no longer emits cell phone rays.
- In addition to the transmitter antenna, WLAN, Bluetooth and other wireless connections are also automatically deactivated in flight mode. This means that these rays no longer emanate from your mobile phone in offline mode. If you still want to use these functions, you can reactivate them manually.
- However, your smartphone is only completely free of radiation when you switch it off completely. Because even in flight mode, your device constantly generates electromagnetic radiation. In flight mode, however, this is far less than the cell phone radiation in online mode.
When does it make sense to put the phone in flight mode?
- In the hospital, on a plane or if you have your cell phone lying next to your bed at night, you should definitely put your device in flight mode. With the transmitter antenna switched off, you reduce the radiation exposure to a minimum. So you do not interfere with other devices and at the same time protect yourself from dangerous radiation.
- At night, you should also switch off the other wireless connections (WLAN, Bluetooth, etc.), as this will further reduce the radiation. If you don't need the alarm clock on your smartphone, it's best to switch your phone off completely at night.
