Merge FLV files - so it'll work
If you want to merge several FLV files, you can either combine them directly or convert them to another format beforehand. We briefly introduce both of these approaches in this practical tip.
Merge FLV files without converting
The main advantage of connecting the FLV files to one another without converting them is that the image quality of the video material does not deteriorate. For example, you can use the free tool "Andy's FLV Joiner":
- Download the "Andy's FLV Joiner" program and unzip it to any directory. Then start the file "FLVJoin.exe".
- Drag the FLV files you want to merge into the program window. Alternatively, click on the "Add" button and select the files.
- Under "Output" you specify where the program should save the merged file. Then click on the "Join" button and wait until the tool has connected the videos.
Merge FLV files when converting
Unfortunately, you cannot connect all FLV files in this way. If they differ in codec, resolution or frame rate, the "FLV Joiner" always takes over the properties of the first file for all subsequent parts. In the worst case, you can no longer play the output file without errors. In such a case, you have to convert the files additionally:
- Download the "Format Factory" program. After that, install and launch it.
- In the left program area, click on "Advanced" and then on "Connect Video".
- You can now select the format of the target file and adjust the video settings. Then click on "Add file" and select the FLV files to be merged. Finally click on "Ok" to add the videos to the task list.
- In the main window of "Format Factory" you can change the output directory at the bottom left. Click the "Start" button to merge the files and convert them into the desired format.
