Flyers are handy, informative and easy to produce: You can even create flyers in Word without having to rely on special layout software. You can find out exactly how this works in this tip.
1. Set the flyer size
- Open a new document in Word and click on "Page Layout" in the menu.
- There you will also find the "Size" item, which already hides a small selection of the most popular formats.
- However, you have to select "Other paper sizes" because you cannot use a standard format for flyer printing.
- The dimensions 10.5 x 14.8 apply to an A6 flyer. However, the print shop usually requires a bleed. Among other things, this enables borderless printing. This bleed allowance is approx. 3 additional millimeters. You can find out more from your print shop.
- The bleed must be added on all sides, so that the new dimensions of 11.1 x 15.4 result. You have to enter the width and height and confirm with "OK".
2. Design and export
- If you have set the correct flyer size, you can design the flyer as you wish.
- All color elements and shapes should go to the edge. However, the text should be at least one centimeter from each edge. So nothing is cut off from the text.
- When your flyer is ready, you only need to save it as a PDF. This format is standard for all printing companies. To do this, go to "Save As" as normal and select "PDF or XPS". When saving you may have to select PDF. As a rule, however, this is preset.
