Foil lamination matt or glossy? That is the difference
Foil lamination is available in matt and glossy for almost all printer events in a print shop. The difference is not clear to many, who only occasionally have flyers, posters or brochures printed. We show the difference and give tips on when and which form is more suitable.
Foil lamination: matt or glossy - what does that mean exactly?
In large online printers you can almost always choose a film lamination for brochures, posters and flyers. These are available in matt and glossy. But the difference is not clear to many, since a film actually always shines
- However, this does not apply to the matt film lamination. First of all, the advantage of foil lamination is that, for example, the flyer is more robust and it doesn't mind a few drops of water. Scratches and cracks are also less common. The additional layer also has a somewhat higher quality than if you only hold thick paper in your hand. Foil lamination is almost standard for books because the cover does not wear out as quickly.
- A matt film lamination does not shine and does not look like film at first glance. It looks more like high-quality art paper, but does not have the gloss look typical of foils. Because the light does not reflect. It is only when you try to remove the top layer that you realize that it is a film.
- A glossy film lamination, on the other hand, can be seen immediately in the printed products, since they reflect or reflect the light. Colors also come into their own here and flyers or brochures look classy.
Matte or glossy film lamination: tips for making a decision
Foil lamination is simply part of brochures, magazines and books. Because you have them in your hand more often and the articles wear out easily. With flyers, you can usually save yourself the film lamination, if it is not a noble flyer.
- Foil lamination matt: Most of the books have a matt foil lamination, as do magazines. If you want to click into the row, choose matt film lamination. Note, however, that the color intensity decreases slightly. You will only notice this with color-intensive images.
- Glossy foil lamination: The glossy foil lamination stands for a special brilliance of the colors. A glossy surface is perfectly suitable for professional photos on the cover / flyer. In any case, it attracts a lot of attention and looks classy. The feel is also special: you notice the film on the paper when you run your hand over it. A glossy film is unusual for flyers if you are not advertising in the premium segment.
