Followers, Likes & Co. on Instagram: Limits and Solutions
Infinite followers and likes on Instagram: is that allowed? In fact, there are certain limits on Instagram (similar to Twitter) that you should know. Here you will find everything you need to know about the maximum limits.
Followers on Instagram - Variable Limit
There is a fixed maximum number of profiles for Twitter that you can follow daily - and this is also known to the public (since April 8, 2019 there have been 400 accounts / day; previously 1000 accounts / day). But when it comes to Instagram, everything gets more complicated.
- There is a limit at Instagram, but it varies. How many users you can follow per day depends on the age of your account and your activity.
- It's one of the most used ways to get more followers on Instagram: you subscribe to many, many accounts, hoping that they will follow you as well.
- But because Instagram wants to avoid spamming, you can't subscribe to an infinite number of accounts. If you follow many profiles indiscriminately, you get an error message (limit reached) or can even be blocked.
Followers, Likes, Hashtags & Co. on Instagram: These are the limits
There are certain limits for followers, likes or even hashtags and comments on Instagram (as of May 2019):
- Your Followers : Fortunately, there is no limit when it comes to the number of your followers. There are also Instagram accounts (stars, companies, influencers) with millions of fans.
- Follow someone : You can follow a maximum of 7, 500 users. When you have reached this number, you cannot add any more accounts. Users who exceed this amount have an account from before the rule was changed.
- Follow someone with a new account - Limit per hour / day: You should follow a single user for 36-48 seconds. Ideally, you should reach under 75, but a maximum of 160 accounts per hour.
- Follow someone with an old account - Limit per hour / day: If your Instagram account is known (so-called "trusted accounts") because it is older and you are active, the numbers change. It's okay if you follow one user for 28-38 seconds each.
- Under no circumstances should you reach more than 200 new accounts / hour. And you can't do that for hours either, because there is a limit of 1, 000 accounts / day that you can follow.
- New accounts - limit for activities : If you have a new account (less than 3-4 weeks old), a maximum of 500 activities / day are allowed - this means the following and following of other accounts and likes.
- Posts / day : New accounts should publish a maximum of three posts / day, older ones up to twelve .
- Hashtags : Regardless of the age of the account, you can use a maximum of 30 hashtags in one post. This limit counts for comments: You cannot use 30 hashtags in the post itself and other hashtags in the comments below. In general, we recommend using 5-6 hashtags / contribution.
- Comments : Ideally, there should be at least 400 seconds (6-7 minutes) between two comments. There should be a maximum of 14 comments per hour.
- Likes : Clicking "Like" is similar to the accounts you follow. With an old account you should wait at least 28 seconds before you give another "Like" - and there is a limit of 1, 000 likes / day.
- Newly registered users should wait at least 36 seconds - and they must not exceed 500 activities / day (see above). By the way: If you want more likes for your own posts, you can buy not only followers, but also likes.
- Private messages (DM for "direct messages"): There is officially no limit for this, but Instagram pays attention to whether the number is "normal", i.e. whether it could actually reach a person - or whether the messages are sent automatically, for example.
- That's why new accounts shouldn't send more than 40-50 private messages / day. In the case of older accounts, there can be up to 100 private messages / day.
Maximum number reached: You can do that
There are a few tricks you can use once you hit a limit. The most important thing is: Your account must of course behave. As long as your activities are not automated or spam-like, everything should be fine.
- Have you reached the maximum number of 7, 500 subscribed accounts? In this case, you must follow at least one profile before you can follow a new account.
- Under no circumstances do you want to unsubscribe from accounts, because everyone is extremely important to you: Then you have no other option than to find the contents of these accounts in a roundabout way.
- You have to write down the usernames (on the phone) and search for them if you want to know what these users have published. Alternatively, create an "Instagram folder" in your browser, in which you can save the links to the profiles as bookmarks.
- In the case of a new account, you can only increase the number of permitted activities by being active. And just wait a few weeks for the account to register.
- The same applies to the limit of subscribed users per hour / day: the age of your account is important and you must be active. Post regularly, comment on other users' posts and click "like" under their posts.
