Configuring Foobar2000 as a music player: the first steps
Here we guide you through the first steps if you want to configure the freeware "foobar2000" as a music player.
After Foobar installation: Configure the user interface
- During the Foobar installation you will be asked whether you would prefer to carry out a portable installation. In this case, all settings are saved in the program folder and not in the registry. However, media files are then not linked to the software. Irrespective of this, unwanted functions can be excluded during installation.
- After the first start, the "Quick Appearance Setup" window appears, in which you can select the program interface, its colors and the layout of the playlist. You can click through the options here and examine them directly in the preview window. Then confirm your selection with "OK".
Configure the media library: import songs
When you start "foobar2000" for the first time, there are no songs in the media library. You have to add them first.
- Click the "Nothing to show - configure Media Library first" button. A new window is opening up. Alternatively, you can also click "File" in the menu bar and then "Preferences". Then select "Media Library".
- In the "Music folders" area, click the "Add ..." button and select a directory with music. This is then added to the media library and continuously monitored for new audio files. Note that subfolders are also imported when you add them. Of course, you can also add multiple folders.
- If you want "foobar2000" to always display a playlist with the currently selected entry in the media library, check "Enabled" under "Library viewer selection playlist". This then considerably simplifies the playback of music.
- The imported songs are now displayed in the program window in the media library. You can sort the view according to various criteria or use display filters.
Create a new playlist
To play audio files, you must select them in a playlist. If you have not activated the "Library viewer selection playlist" (see previous paragraph, point 3), you must first add the files to a playlist.
- To add audio files to a playlist, simply drag them from the media library to the desired list.
- By default, "foobar2000" creates a playlist called "Default".
- To create a new playlist, click on "File" in the menu bar and then on "New Playlist".
- You can also double-click in the empty area with the tabs of the playlists in the program window to create a new list.
- If you want to rename a list, right-click on the name of the list and then select "Rename Playlist". You can then enter a new name.
