The perfect photo can often not be taken well in poor light. In the following practical tip, we will show you how to build a photo box yourself for optimal conditions.
Build your own photo box out of cardboard
Photo boxes are particularly suitable for product photos that you can illuminate and stage so much better. How to build your photo box yourself:
- You need the following materials for the construction: A box in your desired size, transparent paper or transparent film (thin, white fabric is also suitable), adhesive tape, cutter knife or scissors and various backgrounds made of paper or fabric.
- Place the box on its side so that the opening faces you.
- Use scissors or a cutter knife to cut out a large square at the top and on both sides so that a small frame remains.
- Now cut out somewhat larger squares from the transparent material and stick them to the openings with adhesive tape from the outside. You can attach the overlapping material to the remaining frame.
- Make sure that nothing wrinkles and that there are no wrinkles.
- Insert the appropriate background from top to bottom and fasten it from the inside with adhesive tape. Fastening with small Velcro points works even better. You can attach these at different points in the background.
- This means that the background can be replaced more often without the cardboard suffering.
Build a light tent as a photo box
Another option for good product photos using a photo box is a light tent. This can be easily built from a laundry bag (for example from IKEA).
- Your other handicraft materials include various sheets of background paper or fabrics and fastening materials such as Velcro, tapes and adhesive tape.
- Lay the laundry bag on its side so that the side rack lies on the floor and the opening is at a 90-degree angle to the floor.
- Now attach a background that you want to use for your photo to the upper area in the laundry bag. Insert sheets of paper on the back of the wall and let them slide forward.
- Place lamps on the closed sides of the laundry bag that illuminate the box well.
- You can now put your photo object in the laundry bag and take a well-lit photo from the front.
