Photography in the rain - 5 interesting motifs
As a passionate photographer, you should take pictures in the rain every now and then. We have put together 5 motifs for you that can be photographed particularly beautifully in the rain.
Motif 1: Photographing in the rain - water
Raindrops in particular bring additional movement into what is probably the most diverse motif in photography.
- Look for reflections in puddles of rain or drops of water on objects.
- Ponds, pools or other larger water pits start to move quickly and become the main motif from the background.
- Running water, for example in a gutter on the side of the road or through drainage basins open upwards, can also be very interesting.
Motif 2: Photographing in the rain - plants
Plants often stand in the rain like a rock in the surf and develop their variety of colors despite the bad weather.
- Raindrops on smaller flowers reflect the light and bring a new perspective into the motif.
- Shortly after a heavy rain shower, many raindrops get stuck on trees. Flowers and fruits look like they shine.
Motif 3: Photography in the rain - people
In addition to wet photo models, people can be interesting in everyday situations in the rain.
- Visit the pedestrian zone of your nearest town and watch people. Many people wear their rainwear and therefore offer more than everyday motifs.
- Some people come up with funny things to protect themselves from an involuntary shower. In the picture you can see a full-body umbrella, an invention that will definitely draw a look or two.
Motif 4: Taking photos in the rain - from a bird's eye view
From a bird's eye view, many of your motifs look very different in the rain than in the dry.
- Find an elevated position in a city and take pictures down.
- Busy streets bring a depressing, oppressive mood to your picture in the rain.
- Try to photograph crowds of people at bus stops or other gathering points. When do people move closer together than during a proper rain shower?
Motif 5: Photographing in the rain - simply in black and white
Black and white photography has a completely different effect than in color. In the rain, your black and white pictures get more details and shine.
- In the picture you see a wet spider web in black and white. Small motifs gain additional details through the reflections in the water.
- Due to the different lighting conditions in reflections, many different shades of gray are visible in your pictures.
- No matter whether people, animals or plants: rain brings life to the otherwise still-life black and white pictures.
Bad weather often brings bad lighting conditions with it. In another practical tip, we will show you how you can remove noise from images using Adobe Lightroom.
