To brighten pictures, you can take pictures with flash. In this practical tip, we show you which tips you should definitely pay attention to.
Flash indirectly
If you take portrait photos, hard edges on the faces are particularly annoying. If you don't want to set your flash manually, you should use eTTL.
- Use a softbox or a diffuser to soften the light.
- If you do not have both and you are taking indoor photos, stand with your back against a white wall. Turn the flash towards the white wall. This then serves as a large reflector.
- Tip: Put a white handkerchief about 5 cm in front of the flash. It serves as an additional diffuser.
Camera tips for photos with flash
You should also note a few tricks when it comes to camera settings:
- Flash compensation: If you only use the internal flash, you can adjust the amount of light with the flash exposure compensation.
- Aperture: The larger your aperture is set, the further the flash light reaches.
- ISO: The higher you set your ISO value, the more the flash light is interpreted. But be careful: Noise is generated quickly at high ISO settings.
- Exposure time: If you want more details in the background of your picture, a longer exposure time and a weaker flash is recommended.
