Upload photos from your smartphone to your PC

The cell phone often replaces the digital camera - but how do the photos get from the smartphone to the PC? We want to present three methods for Android phones and a solution for the iPhone, which you can use to back up your photos on your computer.
Copy photos to your PC via SD card - the easiest way
If you have a smartphone with a micro SD slot, you can make it particularly easy:
- Switch off your cell phone and remove the micro SD card.
- Now plug this into the (usually supplied) SD adapter.
- This in turn comes into the card reader of your PC - with autoplay you now get to the respective folder that contains your pictures. This is usually called "DCIM".
Transfer photos by cable
You can also simply connect Android smartphones to your computer's USB port using a data cable.
- A pop-up menu appears on the Android smartphone, select the "Drive" / "Hard disk" option (wording varies depending on the manufacturer).
- Shortly afterwards, the folder with all the files it contains appears again on the PC via autoplay. Find the folder "DCIM" and let off steam with simple copy & paste.
Detour via Samsung Kies
If you still have an older Samsung phone, you often have no direct access via Explorer. Here is a little detour via Samsung's software "Kies":
- Start the Kies software.
- Connect your smartphone via USB.
- After a short loading phase, a submenu appears on the left in Kies - select the "Photos" item here.
- Mark the desired pictures with the left mouse button - a right click then opens a pop-up menu. Here you decide to save the photos on the PC.
- To find the files not only in the software, but also in Explorer, you have to go to the Kies installation directory. This can usually be found under "C:"> "Programs"> "Samsung Kies", but it can of course vary depending on your installation settings.
Transfer photos from iPhone to PC
By the way: Apple has now also created a very nice solution for copying photos - for once you are not dependent on your own software "iTunes".
- Connect your iPhone to the computer via USB.
- Open the Explorer, under "Portable Devices" or "Computer" you will find your phone and select it.
- There is only one folder in each of the submenus that appear - the first level is again called "DCIM". Click here and you will get to your picture collection.
- Here you can copy or cut selected files as usual and transfer them to your hard drive.
