Set up Freenet email on Android
To set up your Freenet email on the Android phone, you should use IMAP as a protocol. This practical tip shows you which data you need and where you can set up your email address.
Every app wants it differently - where you set up your Freenet email
The procedure depends on which Android app you use on your smartphone for email traffic. Using the example of the popular "Kaiten Email" email client and the standard email app from HTC-Phones, we will show you how to set up your Freenet email.
- Kaiten Email: Click the menu button in the main menu and select "Add account". Enter your complete Freenet email as your email address and your normal Freenet password as your password. Then click on "Manual setup" at the bottom left and select "IMAP account" in the next step.
- HTC Mail app: At startup you will be asked for the mail service provider. Select "Other (POP3 / IMAP)" here. Use your normal Freenet data again as your email address and password. Then click on "Manual setup" and select "IMAP" as the protocol at the top.
The data for the IMAP account - you need this for Freenet
Now you need the data for the incoming server. Depending on the Android app, the fields may be named differently or arranged differently.
- Email address: Your complete Freenet address
- Username: Your complete Freenet address again (with "@ freenet.de" at the end)
- Password / Password: Your Freenet password
- IMAP server: mx.freenet.de
- Security type: SSL or "SSL (if available)"
- (Server) port: 993
Use the following data for the outgoing server and check the box "Login required":
- Username: Your Freenet email address
- Password: Your Freenet password
- SMTP server: mx.freenet.de
- Security type: SSL or "SSL (if available)"
- Server port: 465
Finally, select the frequency with which your emails are to be checked and confirm all the data. Now you have set up your Freenet email on the Android smartphone.
