Freestyle Libre: read data - how it works
With Freestyle Libre, reading out the blood sugar data is done quickly. So you always have the blood sugar level under control and the dangerous hypoglycaemia is a thing of the past.
Freestyle Libre - an uncomplicated blood glucose meter
The relatively tedious and somewhat cumbersome measurement of the glucose level by pricking your fingers is very unpleasant, especially for small diabetes patients. With Freestyle Libre, on the other hand, blood sugar levels are measured in the interstitial fluid and not in the blood. Reading the data is much more pleasant.
- With the blood glucose meter, the glucose level is not determined using unpleasant needles, but completely painlessly using a sensor.
- The sensor is relatively flat and about the size of a two-euro coin. There is an approximately 5 millimeter long sensor on the underside of the sensor. This sensor is used to measure blood sugar levels.
- The sensor is attached to the upper arm with the sensor applicator. The probe is inserted into the skin so that the sensor is firmly placed on the skin surface. The sensor is very thin and narrow, so that most diabetes patients hardly feel the sensor being attached.
- The sensor sits firmly on the skin and does not interfere in everyday life. In addition, it is waterproof and therefore neither daily showering nor swimming is a problem. Replace the sensor with a new one every two weeks.
Reading blood sugar values made easy
After you have attached the sensor, the control of the blood sugar level, which is essential for diabetics, is done quickly.
- You can read out the glucose values within a few seconds using a small, light reader that can be easily taken with you.
- To record the blood values, hold the Freestyle Libre reader briefly over the sensor. You don't have to roll up your sleeves. The reader can usually also collect the data through clothing.
- You need to measure your glucose level at least every eight hours. If you want to be on the safe side, run the scan as many times as you want. There are no limits to the top.
- The read data is stored on the reader for three months. So you always have a clear glycemic profile at hand when you need it. If you want to save the data, which is also shown in clear diagrams, for longer, transfer it to your computer.
