Fritz-NAS as network drive: create remote connection and user
Before you can get started, you need to make some preparations on your Fritzbox:
- Enter "fritz.box" in the address line of your browser and confirm with [Enter].
- If specified, enter a password for the user interface.
- Switch to the "Home network" option and then to "USB devices".
- Click on the "USB remote connection" tab and deactivate the "USB storage" option. Click on "Apply" to save the options.
- Now you have to create a user who has enough rights to change the NAS settings. To do this, switch to the "System" setting and then "FRITZ! Box user".
- If you have already created a user, click on the pencil icon next to the name to edit it.
- If not, click the "Add User" button and enter a name and password.
- Then activate the "Access to NAS content" option.
- Now you have to assign a directory to the user. To do this, click on "Select directory" and then "All storage available on the FRITZ! Box" so that the user can access all NAS storage.
- In the "Directory" section you still have to set read and write permissions, then save with "OK".
Set Fritzbox registration and NAS storage
In the next step we will show you what else you have to set up when registering:
- Switch to the "System" settings and then to the "FRITZ! Box User" option.
- Select the "Login to the home network" tab and activate the "Login with FRITZ! Box user name and password" option.
- Click on "Apply" to save the settings.
- Now you have to set up the NAS. To do this, switch to the "Home network" option.
- Click here on "Storage (NAS)" and activate the option "Storage (NAS) active".
- Click "Apply" to save. This completes the preparations and you can dedicate yourself to the actual registration.
Set up Fritz NAS under Windows
After you have successfully completed the preparation, you can now connect the NAS storage:
- Open the Windows start menu and enter "\\ fritz.box" in the search bar and confirm with [Enter].
- Enter the user name and password of the user who makes the NAS settings.
- Right-click on the "FRITZ! NAS" network folder and select "Connect network drive ..." in the context menu.
