Set up Fritzbox as a fax machine - how it works
You can easily set up and use your Fritzbox as a fax machine. All you have to do is make some settings directly on the Fritzbox and install software for fax support on your computer. In this practical tip, we will show you how to do this.
Set up a Fritzbox as a fax machine
The first step in setting up your Fritzbox as a fax machine is to configure the Fritzbox itself:
- Open the Internet browser on your PC in your home network and call up the address "fritz.box".
- You must now enter the password of your Fritzbox. You will then be redirected to the overview page.
- Make sure that you are working with the current firmware version of the Fritzbox. If this is not the case, read here how to carry out an update.
- In the selection on the left click on the item "Telephony". Select "Telephony devices" in the submenu. In the box on the right, click on the button "Set up new device" at the bottom.
- You will now see a selection of different options. The upper part is about external devices that are connected to the Fritzbox. In the lower area ("Integrated into the FRITZ! Box"), select the "Fax function" option and click "Next".
- Enter the desired fax ID in the settings, choose whether a received fax should be forwarded to an email address and whether you want to save it on a USB stick connected to the Fritzbox. Then click on "Next".
- Select one or more of the available numbers via which faxes are to be sent and received and click on "Next".
- You will now see an overview of the settings made. If these are what you want, click "Apply". Your Fritzbox is now ready to receive and send faxes.
Set up your computer for sending faxes with the Fritzbox
- If you are working with a Windows PC, AVM provides you with the latest version of the FRITZ! Fax software. On the right side under "Further Downloads" click on the item "FRITZ! Box Utilities". You will find the required software in the "fax4box" folder. After installation, you can send and receive faxes with your PC.
- If you work with a Mac, AVM does not offer a homemade solution. However, the fritz.mac Suite is an excellent alternative for OS-X systems. The software costs EUR 10.00, but the functionality of the program makes up for this. You can try the program for free for 30 days before purchasing.
