Downgrade Fritzbox to the latest firmware version
If problems occur after an update of the Fritzbox firmware, you should downgrade to the latest version. We'll show you how it's done.
Step 1: Download the old firmware file for the Fritzbox
- Enter the URL "ftp://service.avm.de/" (without quotes) in the address bar of your browser and open it.
- This takes you to an FTP server on which you first open the "Downgrade" folder.
- Here you can see a folder for each Fritzbox model. If you don't know which model you have, look at the bottom of the router or at fritz.box. Then open the corresponding folder.
- In some models you have to select the "German" folder before the firmware is displayed.
- The last two firmware versions are usually available. The files end on ".image". Always choose the latest version. You can recognize them by the date. The download then begins.
Step 2: Downgrade Fritzbox to the old firmware version
- Open the fritz.box user interface and log into your Fritzbox.
- Select the "System" item in the menu on the left and then click on the "Firmware update" sub-item.
- Switch to the "Firmware file" tab and click the "Save settings" button.
- Then click on "Select file" and look for the firmware file you just downloaded. Once you have found it, click on "Open".
- The old firmware version is then installed using the "Update" or "Start Update" button.
- The process can take a few minutes. Never disconnect the router from the power. It is perfectly normal for LEDs on the router to flash frequently.
In order to avoid a downgrade next time, you should create a backup file before an update. You can find out how this works in this practical tip.
