Fritzbox: Record data traffic
You can record the data traffic with your Fritzbox via a hidden function. This will help you figure out problems and mysterious activities in your network. We'll show you how it's done.
Record data traffic with the Fritzbox
Basically everyone can record data traffic with the Fritzbox. However, the evaluation of the data is complicated and only something for advanced users. However, you can record the traffic yourself and send the result to an expert who will evaluate it for you.
- Open the following link, which takes you directly to the Fritzbox data recording.
- Log in here with your password.
- Now you can record different interfaces of your network as you wish. Choose between "Internet", "Network interfaces", "WLAN", "USB" and "DTrace".
- To start the recording, click on the "Start" button next to the desired interface. A download will now begin and will not be completed until you click "Stop".
- The download is then ended and the file can be read out.
Evaluate Fritzbox data traffic with Wireshark
- Download and install the free "Wireshark" program.
- Select the additional software "WinPcap" during installation. This is not needed.
- Start the program and click on "File" in the top left and then on "Open".
- Navigate to the location of the Fritzbox file. Select it and click "Open". The file is loaded into the program and can be read out.
- The top third shows the individual activities that have been recorded in the network. If you select one, you will see all the important information about the connection in the middle third. In the lower third, the whole thing is displayed as a HEX and ASCII dump.
