FritzBox: Deactivate remote access
AVM currently recommends to its customers (February 2014) to deactivate remote access to the Fritzbox. Hackers have caused costs through added-value services via remote access to some FRITZ! Boxes. We will show you how to deactivate the relevant services and check whether you are affected.
Disable remote access via HTTPS
To deactivate remote access, open the user interface of your FRITZ! Box. To do this, enter the following in your browser (without ""): "fritz.box/"
- Log in to the FRITZ! Box with your password and click on "Internet" in the menu bar on the left.
- Open the "Shares" submenu.
- Depending on the model, check the setting "Internet access to the FRITZ! Box via HTTPS" or "Remote maintenance".
- If the setting should be activated, deactivate it and confirm this by clicking on "Apply".
- AVM also recommends deactivating the "MyFRITZ!" Service. You can also find the service in the "Internet" menu.
How to check whether your FRITZ! Box has been accessed.
The hackers install virtual IP telephones on the affected boxes, which were used to make expensive calls. You can see whether your FRITZ! Box is affected by the configured IP telephones.
- To do this, open the "Telephony" menu in the user interface.
- All configured telephones are displayed under the "Telephony devices" menu. Pay attention to devices with the "LAN / WLAN" connection. But don't panic if such a device appears on your list. Smartphones that you have connected via the FRITZ! App Fon are also displayed as "LAN / WLAN". If there are any unknown devices here, delete them as a precaution.
- You should also deactivate the "Callthrough" function. You will find the setting in the "Call forwarding" menu.
