Fritzbox: Internet slow - it could be because of that
In this article we will show you what you can do if the internet of your Fritzbox is slow. A slow connection can have different reasons. Therefore, you should check several sources of error one after the other.
Fritzbox: Internet slow - restart and diagnosis
Restarting the Fritzbox is often useful to eliminate cache errors or program loops. After that, you should run a diagnosis to see what the problem is:
- Unplug your Fritzbox. Wait ten seconds and reconnect your Fritzbox with the power cable. It now restarts and activates all functions one after the other.
- Now check whether the internet is faster again. If not, continue with the following steps.
- Call up the menu of your Fritzbox. You can do this by typing "//fritz.box" (without the quotation marks) in the URL line of your browser. If that doesn't work, you can find help in another article.
- Log in with the access data you specified. If you have not yet created access data, leave the "User" and "Password" fields empty. If that doesn't work, just enter "0000" (without the quotation marks) in the "Password" field.
- Now click on "DSL information" in the menu under "Internet". If the current data rate shown here is significantly lower than the speed from your contract, there is a technical error.
- In this case, check your wiring. For example, use extension cables, disconnect them temporarily and then test whether the error still persists.
- Then click again on "DSL information" in the "Internet" menu item. Then select the "Reset setting" option under the "Interference immunity" tab.
Fritzbox: Internet slow - detect WLAN problems
If you are connected to your Fritzbox via WLAN and the internet is slow, it is best to check a few more things:
- Navigate to "WLAN" in the user interface of your Fritzbox. Then select "radio channel".
- Scroll down until you see a graphic. This shows the channel on which the WLAN networks in the area and you are transmitting. The more routers send on a channel, the more susceptible the networks are to interference. This usually manifests itself in connection breaks or slow Internet. It's best to choose a free channel. It is optimal if there are no WLAN networks to the left and right of your channel. See this article for more information.
- If the problem persists, it is advisable to establish a direct connection with the Fritzbox. To do this, connect your computer to your Fritzbox using a LAN cable. If this solves the problem, your WLAN network is probably disturbed by external influences. In this case you should (if possible) use a 5 GHz band instead of the 2.4 GHz band. See the next article for more information. If your Fritzbox does not master the function, you can consider buying a 5 GHz router.
Fritzbox: Internet slow - last help
If your Fritzbox is still slow, you should reset it to the factory settings. We'll show you how in this article and in the video. If that doesn't help either, call the support of your network operator. It usually has a free number and helps you almost around the clock on weekdays.
