Cool Fritzbox - you have to consider that
Have you ever tried to cool your Fritzbox? You will certainly not hear this sentence as often on the customer hotline of your Internet provider. But that's not so far-fetched, because problems with the Internet connection are often due to the temperature in your router. In this article we explain how cooling works and what you need to consider.
Fritzbox too hot - you can find all information here
If there is an increasing frequency of internet interruptions or unscheduled router restarts, this is mostly due to the internet provider. But if your connection is ok, it can actually be due to the temperature in your Fritzbox.
- A router is nothing more than a small computer consisting of microchips, which can also heat up. This is why passive heat sinks are usually installed.
- If you enter fritz.box in the browser, you can log in to your Fritzbox menu. There you will find the CPU temperature of the last 24 hours under "System - Energy monitor - Statistics".
- A red line, at 120 degrees Celsius, shows the absolute maximum value. Under no circumstances should this value be exceeded. Functional failures can be expected from 70 degrees Celsius.
Cool the router using the Fritzbox menu
You now have several options to cool your Fritzbox and protect it in the long term from temperature-related failures.
- Under "WLAN timer" you can switch off the router at certain times. So the device is not in continuous operation and can cool down in between.
- You can set the WLAN network to switch off only when no device is logged on to the network, a daily period in which the network switches off, or create a separate schedule for every day of the week.
So you can still cool the Fritzbox
You should also consider giving your router more breathing space.
- You often install your router in the bottom corner of a shelf or desk. However, the air cannot circulate sufficiently and the Fritzbox runs hot.
- Also avoid carpets as a base for the router.
- If you raise the legs of the router, the warm air can escape better.
- You should also make sure there is enough space for the Fritzbox when mounting it on the wall.
