FritzBox: Find out MAC address - how it works
Your Fritzbox also has its own MAC address, which you can read out. You have to differentiate between the MAC address for WLAN and LAN. You can find out how to find out the address in this practical tip.
Fritzbox: Find out the WLAN MAC address - how it works
The WLAN MAC address is the address at which the FRITZ! Box can be reached by another device via a WLAN connection. You can read this address yourself in the Fritzbox:
- Open the user interface of the Fritzbox in your browser.
- Then enter your router password and click on "Login".
- In the left menu you decide on the entry "WLAN" and click below on "radio network".
- In the section "2.4 GHz frequency band" or "5 GHz frequency band" you will find the respective MAC address of the WLAN module.
Fritzbox: Find out the LAN MAC address - how it works
You can determine the LAN-MAC address of the Fritzbox, i.e. the one in the LAN network, using a Windows PC connected by cable:
- To do this, press the key combination [Windows] + [R].
- Enter the command "CMD" in the Run dialog and click "OK". The command prompt opens.
- Enter the command "nslookup fritz.box" and confirm with [Enter].
- The Fritzbox's IP address then appears. Make a note of this and enter the "arp -a IP address" command. Example: If your IP address is "192.168.178.1", the command is "arp -a 192.168.178.1".
- Under "Physical address" you can see the MAC address of the Fritzbox.
We will tell you in another article how you can block other MAC addresses in the Fritzbox.
