Fritzbox: Measure power consumption - how it works
The Fritzbox shines with countless features, but all of them can increase power consumption. In this article, we reveal how you can measure and even reduce the current power consumption of your router.
Fritzbox: Measure current power consumption
In our extensive Fritzbox test, we measured a power consumption of 7 watts in standby. The average power consumption for data transfer was 9 watts. You can find out which functions are currently consuming how much electricity using the Fritzbox interface:
- To do this, open the user interface of the Fritzbox in your browser and log in with your router password.
- In the left column click on "System" and then on "Energy monitor".
- Here you will find an extensive breakdown of the power consumption according to the respective functions. This allows you to roughly estimate how much power the WLAN, DSL or CPU of the Fritzbox is currently consuming. The average of the last 24 hours can also be viewed.
Fritzbox: reduce power consumption
Compared to other routers, the Fritzbox's power consumption is already relatively low, but you can reduce it even further:
- If you deactivate the WLAN, for example, you will save a lot of energy. If you do not want to completely do without the wireless connection, you can set up a timer.
- Also remove unnecessary USB devices from the Fritzbox. This is because they are constantly supplied with electricity.
- You should also disconnect all devices from your network that do not need to access the Internet right now. This lowers the load on the Fritzbox and ultimately the power consumption.
- The built-in power saving mode of the Fritzbox is even more effective: If you activate the so-called night service, the Fritzbox shuts down completely in the night and does not consume any more electricity.
