Fritzbox: Set up VPN access
To be able to access your home network via the Internet, you need to set up a VPN connection with your Fritzbox. You can find out how to do this in this practical tip.
Create VPN settings for the Fritzbox
First you have to create a configuration file with the "Fritzbox - Set up remote access" tool. To do this, proceed as follows.
- Download the program Fritzbox remote access setup and run it.
- Click "New" and then "Set up remote access for a user".
- Select a user name for the access and click on "Next".
- Enter your DynDNS domain or your fixed IP.
- After clicking on "Next" you have to enter the IP settings of your Fritzbox.
- Save the configuration with "Finish".
Import VPN settings for Fritzbox
Then you have to import the configuration file into your Fritzbox using the following steps.
- Call up the user interface of your Fritzbox. You can find more information in the video below.
- Now select under "Internet" -> "Shares" -> "VPN" by clicking on "Select file" the configuration file you just created (fritzbox.cfg).
- With "Import VPN configuration" the Fritzbox loads the configuration file and is then ready for a VPN connection.
Set up computer for VPN access on Fritzbox
Below you will find the final points to set up your PC for VPN access.
- Download the Fritz-Fernzugang VPN program and install it.
- Click on "File" and then "Import" to select your configuration file (vpnuser.cfg).
- You can now connect to your Fritzbox using the telephone receiver symbol.
- Attention: The computer must not be in the same network as the Fritzbox.
