Fritzbox: Read access data - how it works
With a tool you can read out the passwords and access data from your Fritzbox. In some cases, this can be the last resort. We explain to you in this practical tip exactly how this works.
Read out the access data of the Fritzbox router using the program
Since the access data are stored directly in the router, you can usually read them out easily. To do this, however, you must first have backed up your configuration files. Even if Fritzbox is not officially supported, a try can still be worthwhile.
- You can find out how to transfer the settings of your Fritzbox in a separate practical tip.
- You can then read out the access data with a free program such as "RouterPassView".
- To do this, download the program and insert the created backup files into the tool via "File" -> "Open Router Config File". The Fritzbox access data will then be displayed in plain text.
- If you do not see the access data, switch to "Text Mode - Ascii" in the "Options" tab.
- With a little luck, the tool will now show you the contents of the backup file in text form and you can search for passwords and other access data using search terms such as "pass" or "pswrd".
Read access data in the Fritzbox menu
If the tool does not work, you can also read the access data of the Fritzbox to a limited extent in the menu interface of the router.
- To do this, call up the user interface of the Fritzbox in your browser using the address "192.168.178.1" or "//fritz.box/".
- After entering your password, click on the "Network" option in the left ribbon.
- You can now read out the data under "Internet access" and "Internet and DSL information".
This tip refers to FritzOS 6.5. We will show you in the next practical tip how you can change the password of your Fritzbox.
