Edit footnote dividers in Word 2007 or 2010
Whoever writes scientific texts or works on a diploma thesis usually also uses footnotes. Word separates the footnotes from the text with a line about five centimeters long. If you want to edit the line, you will often have to search for this option from Word 2007 onwards.
Change the length of the footnote dividing line
After opening a Word document that contains a footnote, first switch to "Draft" view via "View". It doesn't work in the other document views.
- On the "References" tab, click on "Show Notes" in the "Footnotes" area. Now a window for the footnotes is visible below.
- "All footnotes" is probably preset in the selection field. Instead, select "Footnote dividing line".
- The line is now displayed in a frame. For example, you can now delete the frame and use [Ctrl] + [-] (the minus sign on the numeric keyboard) to specify your own line with an individual length.
