Few people who use this Apple data transfer feature know how AirDrop works. We explain to you how the wireless exchange works.
This is how AirDrop works
AirDrop is used for fast data transfer between Apple devices such as Mac or iPhone.
- Depending on the distance between the two devices, Bluetooth or WLAN is used for the transmission.
- If the distance is less than 10 meters, the device from which you want to send data via Bluetooth searches for which devices are nearby. If Bluetooth is not sufficient, the WLAN network is used.
- The transmission then takes place via peer-to-peer.
- If the devices between which the transfer is to take place are close together, high transfer speeds of 12 to 15 MB / s are achieved. This is faster than using messages, WhatsApp or email to send data. However, an average transfer rate of almost 4 MB / s is achieved.
- You can transfer all data that you can also send - in addition to pictures, documents or music files.
- For AirDrop to work, both Bluetooth and WiFi must be activated on Mac or iPhone.
