Galaxy S3 no longer comes on - you can do that
If your Samsung Galaxy S3 is no longer working, it may be due to the battery, hardware, accessories or software. We'll show you how to solve the most common problems.
Galaxy S3 does not start: battery defective or deeply discharged
- In the best case, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is only deeply discharged. This is the case if you have not used the device for a long time or if the battery has been exposed to very low temperatures.
- Remove the battery and then insert it again. Connect the Galaxy S3 to the socket with a cable and wait a few minutes. If the smartphone does not come on now, there is a slightly bigger problem. Alternatively, you should try a different charging cable.
- Note: If the following instructions do not help, the battery may be completely broken. You can get a new battery for the S3 from Amazon for around 14 euros.
Galaxy S3 no longer starts: start safe mode
If the Galaxy S3 starts but does not load the operating system, you can try to start it in safe mode:
- Press and hold the power button until the Samsung logo appears.
- Release the power button and hold the volume button down for 5 seconds.
- Then the Galaxy S3 should start in safe mode.
- Here you can now search for errors and, for example, delete the recently installed apps and undo other changes.
Hard reset: Galaxy S3 no longer starts
If nothing helps, all that's left is to reset to factory settings. Note that this will delete all files on the Samsung Galaxy S3.
- Press and hold the power, home, and volume up buttons at the same time.
- If the Android logo appears on the display, you can let go.
- Now the recovery mode starts. Navigate up and down with the volume buttons and select with the power button.
- Navigate in the menu to "Wipe data / Factory Reset" and then to "Delete all user data". Warning: In this step, all personal data on the smartphone will be lost!
- When the process is complete, select the "Reboot system now" option in the main menu.
- The Galaxy S3 restarts, all data is deleted. This usually also eliminates the problem.
Galaxy S3 still not working?
- If you have followed all the tips and your Galaxy S3 still cannot be switched on, there is most likely a (serious) hardware defect. In this context, there is often talk of obsolescence.
- The good news: With our instructions, you can even repair the Galaxy S3 yourself. Otherwise, you need to contact professional repair providers.
