Game of Thrones: 5 signs that nobody wins in the last season
The eighth (and last) season of "Game of Thrones" is coming to an end, on May 20th the finale is on. But who will sit on the Iron Throne? The answer should surprise many fans of the popular fantasy series. Caution, spoiler!
Only two more episodes - and then we find out who ends up sitting on the Iron Throne. Until then, fans are guessing who could win: they analyze scenes, prophecies, dialogues, even the clothing of the main characters.
- In the style of "Game of Thrones", a surprise could be waiting for us: What if nobody wins in the end?
- Careful, there are spoilers for season eight from here!
1. Daenerys' vision in the Immortal House
In the second season of "Game of Thrones" Daenerys was in Qarth to get her dragons back. In the Immortal House, she had several visions, including one from the Iron Throne. In her vision, she was in the throne room in Königsmund, which was destroyed. The throne was still there, but nobody was sitting on it. Was that a sign that after the shaft around King's Mouth nobody will sit on the Iron Throne?
2. The wheel is smashed
The next clue may come from Daenerys too. In a conversation with Tyrion in season 6 she says: "Lannister, Targaryen, Baratheon, Stark, Tyrell ... all just spokes of a spinning wheel. First these are up, then those and it spins and spins and crushes them People among themselves. " And further: She did not want to stop this wheel, but smashed it. This could mean that there is no ruling family at all.
3. Nobody = Arya Stark
Daenerys' vision and words may actually suggest that no one will win - but we now know that "nobody" could be a person: Arya Stark. After training in Braavos, she called herself "nobody".
- The battle against the White Walkers and the Night King has finally taken place. In the episode "The Long Night" (Season 8, Episode 3), a huge army fought to defend Winterfell - and actually all of Westeros. But not Jon Snow, not Daenerys with her dragons, not the Dothraki or the Immaculate were the heroes that night: quite surprisingly, Arya Stark was the one who killed the Night King.
- The combative but innocent girl from season 1 no longer exists. Arya is now an excellent fighter who wants revenge. "Nobody" is now on the way to Königsmund, because Queen Cersei is still on Arya's death list.
- After Daenerys has only one kite and becomes weaker, but the younger Stark plays an increasingly important role, the weighing pan tilts in Arya's favor. Khaleesi's chances are also dropping because season 8 shows more and more signs that she may be a mad queen (like her father Aerys II Targaryen then).
4. The song of ice and fire
"Game of Thrones" is based on the novel series "The Song of Ice and Fire" by George RR Martin. Because of the title, many viewers suspect that there will be a couple in the end - with most fans meaning Daenerys (symbolizing fire) and Jon Snow (ice).
- However, there is now a new couple that could also rule Westeros: Arya and Gendry. Gendry is the illegitimate son of the late King Robert Baratheon, but was appointed by Daenerys to be his legal heir. Theoretically, he could be entitled to the throne.
- Meanwhile, Gendry Arya has also asked if she would like to marry him. She said "no" because she was not a lady. But that doesn't mean that their love story is over. Arya didn't want to live as a Sturmkap lady - but she could be the queen at Gendry's side.
5. Has Arya actress Maisie Williams betrayed the end?
While fans are grappling with all sorts of theories, the answer may come directly from Arya actress Maisie Williams. In an interview for The Guardian, she revealed that she is alone in her last GoT scene. A picture in which she sits on the Iron Throne could correspond to that.
- Another note also comes from the actress: Maisie Williams published a photo on her Instagram page after the filming ended. In the text, she says goodbye to Arya and then uses #lastwomanstanding as a hashtag - "The Last Survivor". Although Arya has never had ambitions for the throne, many fans believe that she will still rule Westeros because of the Instagram post.
