Gamestop purchase: Sell games at GameStop
Gamestop offers a purchase of used games. But how does it work? Find out here.
The purchase from Gamestop - how it works
You will not find the purchase on the Gamestop website. There is only some information about it and the reference to its 240+ branches in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Because the US chain does not offer a direct online purchase option.
- Gamestop buys consoles and console games.
- New goods welded in plastic and generally PC games are not purchased.
- You can only sell or trade in your used games on site at a branch. This is how it works: You give your game to a Gamestop employee and he determines the daily purchase price. Then he asks you if you want to exchange the game or sell it for cash.
- If you choose cash payment, the purchase price will always be lower than the one achieved with settlement.
- Example: A relatively new console game now costs 40 euros. Gamestop offered 16 euros for this in cash purchases. If you had set off, you would have received 20 euros for it. The loss on cash purchases is always around 20%.
- When billing, you do not have to immediately decide on a new game, but you can also take a voucher card with you first.
- Broken or heavily damaged or soiled goods will not be purchased. Just as little as foreign versions or 18+ titles.
- There is no bonus for special editions like Collector's Editions. You can only sell the game - even without the original packaging - and keep the collectibles.
- Important: You must always show your ID when purchasing from Gamestop and sign it for the transaction.
- Gamestop only buys from over 18 year olds.
- At Gamestop, buying means "trade-in".
- If you become a member of Gamestop's "Gamestop +" bonus program, you can get up to 12% higher prices when purchasing.
The Texas company Gamestop was founded in 2000. According to its own statements, it is the "world's largest retail chain for computer games and entertainment software" with 6500+ branches worldwide. Another practical tip tells you how the online buying portals Momox and ReBuy compare in comparison.
