Gaming headset - you should pay attention to this when buying
Gaming headsets must meet special requirements and always deliver good sound when gaming. We'll tell you what to look for when buying.
Buy a gaming headset - these are the things you need to consider
Gaming headsets are subject to special conditions, such as additional listeners and speakers as well as electronic devices in the immediate vicinity. In addition, gaming headsets are mostly in long-term use. Therefore, you should pay particular attention to the following points when buying:
- Like any headset, gaming headsets should fit well and not be too heavy.
- Because gaming headsets are worn for many hours at a time, materials that are permeable to air and sweat, such as leather or natural fiber, are much more suitable than synthetic leather or rubber. Wear is also less here.
- In order not to bother other gamers nearby and at the same time block out external noise, you should pay attention to a closed design.
- For a natural sound, the frequency range of the headphones should range at least from 20Hz to 20kHz.
- To ensure that only your voice is recorded by the microphone, a pressure gradient microphone with cardioid characteristics is much more suitable than omnidirectional pressure receivers.
- Pay attention to a reasonable cable length: For interference-free signal transmission, the cables should be as short as possible without restricting your freedom of movement.
- In addition, the length of the microphone and headphone cables should be about the same length.
- Because there are typically many electronic devices near gaming headsets, balanced signal transmission is important to minimize induced noise. XLR and balanced jack cables are therefore ideal.
- Make absolutely sure that your sound card has the necessary connections.
- Complete systems with a gaming mouse, keyboard and headset are often not recommended because the focus is rarely on the headphones. Therefore, it is best to buy the products individually. We'll give you tips for buying gaming keyboards and mice in another article.
