Detect fake DVD: fake or original?
If you buy used DVDs from private individuals, you may find fake DVDs. However, recognizing this is difficult depending on the level of professionalization. We give you tips on how you can still distinguish the original from a fake.
Detect fake DVD - external signs of counterfeiting
- The best way to identify counterfeit DVDs is by the poor quality of the print on the DVD or the cover. Compare the DVD with pictures of the original.
- The back of the DVD should be silver. Colorful colors such as green or purple or a back side that is not completely printed indicate a fake.
- Furthermore, bar codes can usually be recognized in the inner circle on the back of original DVDs.
Detect fake DVD - check quality on PC
- Insert the DVD into your computer and play it. The colors should be strong and there should be no image or sound problems.
- Enter the Explorer and select the DVD with a right click -> "Open". For any file, check when it was created. The date should match the year of production on the packaging.
