Detect fake games: distinguish original from fake
Fake games are sometimes difficult to distinguish from originals. In this practical tip, we will tell you how you can still recognize whether it is a fake.
Modules - detect fake games
Gameboy games in particular, but also the modules of the Nintendo DS, are often faked.
- Compare the module with original modules. Both should be identical in shape.
- The sticker on the module should have good print quality and should not be glued on diagonally.
- Spelling mistakes should not be found on the packaging or in the instructions. Pay special attention to the Nintendo logo, as this is often misspelled in the case of a counterfeit.
- Insert the game and check the quality. Different title screens or a restricted voice output can be indications of a forgery.
- Note: If the memory function of old GameBoy modules is defective, this is due to an empty battery. However, you can exchange them in just a few steps.
CD / DVD / BluRay - detect fake games
Counterfeits of PS4 or XBOX One games are rare, but can also occur:
- With game CDs you should also pay attention to the packaging. Typing errors or poor quality are usually clear signs.
- Compare the game with an original. The top with the motif of the game should be printed in strong colors and should not contain any errors.
- On the top, make sure that the CD is completely printed. In addition, the bottom is generally silver and not purple or gold.
- In the middle of the bottom there is usually the name or the console, as well as several barcodes.
- If you insert the game, you should not hear any image or sound errors here either. If the game is only available in English or even Japanese, it is usually a fake.
