Wallet lost: you have to pay attention to this on vacation
If you don't pay attention and your wallet is gone. In this practical tip, we explain what you have to look out for if you have lost your wallet on vacation.
Wallets lost - so the vacation continues relaxed
It is more than annoying when you suddenly find that your wallet is gone. Especially on vacation - when credit cards, room cards, cash and ID cards are no longer there. The first steps you should take are:
- Keep calm and don't panic.
- Walk all the places where you were last. Maybe your wallet is still under a chair or next to a table.
- Block your bank cards. The universal blocking emergency number 0049 116 116 can be used to block checking and credit cards from all banks. Tip: Save the emergency number of your financial institution on your mobile phone.
- Back home, you can then apply for new bank cards at your leisure.
- See the police and report your wallet as lost or stolen. This is an important step that will officially confirm the loss to you. This is how identity theft is prevented.
- Ask your lost wallet at lost-and-found offices nearby.
If identity documents or similar were in the lost purse
If, in addition to bank cards and cash, ID documents or a driver's license were in your lost wallet, you should have transition papers issued:
- Contact the German consulate in your vacation country. On the website of the Federal Foreign Office you will find a list of all the representations of the Federal Republic abroad.
- If there are other cards such as membership cards, health insurance cards etc. in your wallet, you should inform the issuer of the loss and request replacement cards.
Take care of your valuables
To prevent theft or loss of your personal valuables on vacation, you should consider the following tips:
- Don't leave all your ID and bank cards in your wallet. Think about what you really need and leave the rest at home or in the hotel safe.
- Place your cell phone number in your wallet. So an honest finder can contact you directly.
- Save the necessary blocking numbers on your cell phone.
- Make copies of ID and send them to yourself by email.
- Carry your valuables close to your body with a travel purse or a fanny pack.
- Do not keep house keys and hotel cards in your wallet.
- Be careful and enjoy your vacation.
