Hide geocache - you have to be aware of that
Geocaching is a great outdoor sport. For many, hiding a geocache is also an exciting matter. In this article, you will learn what to consider.
Hide geocache - that's what matters
You can let your creativity run wild when hiding a geocache. However, there are a few things you should consider:
- If you hide a cache, make absolutely sure that it cannot be found by accident. This reduces the risk of the box being "smuggled", ie found and destroyed by outsiders.
- When choosing the hiding place, it should also be noted that the geocache should not be on other people's grounds. If this is the case, it is essential to discuss this with the landowner. This also applies to caches that were hidden in the forest.
- You should also make sure that geocachers do not bother anyone at this location. It should also be as safe as possible to lift the can. For example, a geocache in a cemetery, in a playground or on track systems would be a no-go. Also make sure that the geocache looks harmless and if possible is not visible when you walk by. In Salzburg, Austria, for example, an improperly hidden geocache caused a bomb alarm a few years ago.
- The location of the hiding place should not only be safe and on public ground, but should at best be interesting or worth seeing. A hiding place near the garbage containers near an inconspicuous housing estate is not a worthwhile goal for other geocachers.
- When hiding a geocache, also make sure that you do not violate any nature conservation regulations. For example, you should refrain from hiding a cache in a nature reserve or burying it in the ground.
- If other geocachers need tools to raise the cache or the can has other difficulties, you should indicate this in the cache listing. So you can better prepare for the conditions on site.
