Geocaching: You need this equipment
To start a good geocaching tour, you need to have some equipment with you. We show you what you should definitely pack.
1. GPS device or smartphone for geocaching
If you want to geocach, you absolutely need a GPS device or a smartphone with GPS on which you can install the geocaching app. The tool can be found for iOS, Android smartphones and Windows Phones.
2. Flashlight, wire and tweezers as basic equipment
You should be armed for any type of cache. That's why the flashlight should be part of your geocaching kit. If it's already dark outside or you're looking for a cache in a dark place, the flashlight will shed light on the dark.
- Wire is always helpful. You can assemble the wire into a tool on site at any time. On caches that are difficult to access, you can build a kind of angel out of the wire and reach the hidden containers.
- The tweezers should not be forgotten if you dare to use nano-caches. Sometimes the nanos are so small that you can only get them out of hiding with tweezers.
3. No geocaching tour without a pen and notebook
You don't need pens and notebooks for normal caches (so-called tradis). But when you make a mystery or multi-cache, you often have to write down coordinates, calculate cross-sums or add numbers to waypoints and ultimately calculate the target coordinate from them. Pen and paper should not be missing from such caches.
4. General tips for geocaching
Be prepared to find caches in bushes, walls, or water. So dress accordingly. You should also wear tracking shoes. They provide the necessary support and comfort. If you are somewhat sensitive, you can also pack gloves so that you do not injure yourself on any shrubs.
