Orange juice is one of the largest suppliers of vitamin C, but is also often criticized for its high sugar content. In this article we clarify how healthy it really is.
Healthy orange juice: that's in it
Mainly because of its high vitamin C content, orange juice is one of the most popular fruit juices. In 2015, researchers even found that the human body can absorb more nutrients from the juice of an orange than from the fruit. It's all in the drink:

- As early as 2016, a study found that the drop in cholesterol in the body of the participants after just six weeks of regular orange juice consumption.
- The decrease in oxidative stress, which affects the immune system and thus promotes the development of diseases, has also been demonstrated.
- Orange juice also has a satiating effect and is therefore also good for losing weight.
- Regular consumption, especially of freshly squeezed juice, lowers your blood pressure.
- Orange juice, however, is also repeatedly criticized because the sugar content of 8 percent is similar to that of cola (9 percent). In 2018, studies from Germany proved that a glass of orange juice does not lead to weight gain every day.
- The same studies found that the juice significantly lowers uric acid levels and thus counteracts gout.
