This practical tip shows you how to create an authentic fog in Gimp to give your photos a special mood.
Gimp: create a fog effect
- Open the image to be edited in Gimp and create a transparent layer. To keep the overview, name the layer "Nebel1", for example.
- On the new level navigate to "Filter -> Render -> Clouds -> Plasma". You should leave the value of the turbulence at 1. Now click on "Cube" until you see as many colors as possible on the preview.
- Via the menu "Layer -> Add layer mask" you add a mask with the setting "Grayscale copy of the layer".
- The fog is still quite colorful, so click on the main level in the Nebel1 level. This should then be outlined in white (see screenshot). For a light gray foreground color, go to "Edit -> Fill with foreground color".
- Repeat steps 2 to 4, using a different plasma (cube).
- Finally, play a little with the fog layer transparency slider to create a natural effect.
