Gimp: determine file type when exporting

With the free photo editing software Gimp you can save photos in almost any format. In this article, we explain how you determine the file type and determine it when exporting.
Select file format when saving in Gimp
- When you have opened the image in Gimp, click on "File" in the top left and then on "Export ...".
- Now a new window opens in which you can make all the settings for saving your picture. Click on "File type: by extension" at the bottom left.
- Now a dropdown menu with file types that Gimp supports opens. Simply click on the format of your choice, the file name will be adjusted at the top of the window.
- Alternatively, you can change the extension yourself in the name field and thus determine the file type.
- Clicking "Export" saves the image in the selected file format.
