Gimp: Increase level - how it works
A layer in Gimp does not necessarily have the same size as the complete picture. If you want to enlarge your level, you have two different options. We'll tell you where the difference is and how both ways work.
Gimp: Increase level by scaling
In image editing, "enlarge" often means the same thing as "scale". In this case, enlarge the level and scale the content. So you practically drag the layer larger. However, this can cause the layer to pixelate.
- To scale, click on "Layer" in Gimp and then on "Scale Layer".
- A new window is opening up. There you can precisely determine the height and width of the layer.
- Finally save your changes with "Scale" to enlarge the layer accordingly.
Gimp: change layer size regardless of content
If you want to leave the content of the layer unchanged, you can only enlarge the layer itself. This causes an empty space to appear next to your image - depending on how big you drag the layer.
- To do this, open Gimp and click on "Layer size" in the "Layer" menu item.
- In the new window you can redefine the height and width of your level. A preview shows you how your level will change.
- If you want to place the content of your level differently, you can do this in the "Offset" section.
- If you are satisfied with the result, complete the process with "Resize".
