GIMP: Cut layer - how it works
If you want to crop a single layer in Gimp instead of the entire image, you can do it with just a few clicks. We'll tell you exactly how to proceed.
Cut layer into gimp
If you use the crop tool in Gimp, the entire image will be cropped with all layers. However, you can also specifically adjust a single level according to your wishes.
- First select the desired level in the level window so that it is active.
- In the next step, use the selection tool to select the area of the layer to which you want to cut it.
- If you select "Crop to selection" in the "Layer" menu, the layer is cut to the desired area.
Gimp: Cut the layer automatically
There is another way to crop a layer in Gimp. Gimp automatically removes white or black borders around the actual image.
- Click the "Layers" menu in the main Gimp window.
- Then decide on the "Automatically crop layer" option.
- This removes all monochrome border areas of the active layer without you having to select them separately.
How to change and set DPI in Gimp will be revealed in another article.
