Gimp: Create a gradient - so it'll work
You don't have to be a professional to create an appealing color gradient on your pictures or photos with the free image editing software Gimp. We show you how easy it is.
Gradient in Gimp - how it works
- In Gimp, open the image or photo for which you want to create a gradient.
- Set the desired foreground and background color for the gradient and, if necessary, also the intended area with the selection tool. You determine the colors by clicking on the respective color box directly below the tools. The color at the top defines the foreground color, the color shifted slightly back and down the background color.
- Click on the gradient tool and drag the gradient by moving the right mouse button over the image in the desired direction and finally releasing the mouse button.
- Gimp offers a large selection of gradient shapes. You can find the selection of the different color gradients in the pull-down menu behind "Shape" (see screenshot).
In the next practical tip, we'll explain how to draw certain shapes such as circles or triangles in Gimp.
