Gimp: Create a photo collage - a guide
Photo collages are nice gift ideas. In this article, we show you how you can create them with GIMP.
Gimp: Create photo collages
Gimp is a very well-known and immediately free photo editing program that you can use to create very complex pictures, including photo collages.
- Create new image: At the beginning you have to create a new blank image. To do this, click on "File" -> "New" in the menu bar. Choose a suitable size. If you want to print the photo collage on a poster, you can specify the dimensions in centimeters. To do this, change the format from "Pixel" to "Centimeters".
- Background: If you want to set a specific color as the background, click on the background color in the left toolbar and select the appropriate color. Then click on "Edit" -> "Fill with background color" in the menu bar.
- Insert pictures: In order to insert all pictures at the same time, you have to open them as a layer. This makes it possible to edit each image separately later. In the menu bar click on "File" -> "Open as Layer ...". Then select all the pictures you want to have on your photo collage and click "Open". Gimp automatically creates a new layer for each image - the layers are then all on top of each other.
- Resize: Next you need to scale the layers. To do this, right-click on the corresponding image in the right-hand layer window and then on "Scale layer ...". Choose a suitable size. Repeat this step for each image or for each level.
- Position pictures: Finally you have to bring the pictures to the right place. You can do this with the "Move" tool.
