Gimp: create a photo montage - how it works
This guide shows you how to create a photo montage with Gimp.
Gimp: crop images
Photo montages are characterized above all by self-assembled pictures. To insert an image into another image, you should first cut it out and adjust it.
- First open the image file you want to free up in Gimp. Navigate under "View" to "Magnification (100%)" and select "2: 1 (200%)". The object can thus be freed up better.
- Click the Free Selection lasso tool in the toolbar, which you can use to draw a border around the object. To do this, set the first point with a left click and continue by gradually placing points on the edge of the object. Note that the last point is the same as the first point.
- Set the magnification back to "1: 1 (100%)". Open the basic image on which you want to insert the cut photo.
Gimp: Put pictures together
If you want to insert the cropped object into another picture, you should adjust the size of the pictures so that both pictures can be joined together without a difference in size.
- Under "Image", click "Scale Image". A window opens, which you can use to adjust the size of the cropped image so that it can be inserted into the basic image.
- Play with the values and compare the two pictures by placing them side by side. You can also rotate the object. To do this, select the "Transformations" option under "Tools" and then "Rotate". A window opens in which you can rotate the image by adjusting the angle.
- Click the "Move Tool" on the toolbar. With a right click on the cropped image you can copy the image via "Edit". With a right click on the basic picture you insert the copy via "Edit".
- Since you are already in Move mode, the image can be moved until it suits you. If the object is in the correct position, you can insert the image with a left click - the photo montage is done.
