Gimp: remove shine - how it works
In this guide, we show you how you can remove gloss from portrait pictures with Gimp.
Remove shine with gimp
Note: These instructions refer to Gimp version 2.8.10.
- Open the image in Gimp from which you want to remove the gloss. Use the magnification tool to enlarge the area to be edited.
- Click "Tools" in the bar at the top of the screen and select "Perspective Cloning" under "Painting Tools".
- In the toolbar, change the Change Perspective option to Perspective Cloning. Set the opacity between 30 and 40. Adjust the brush size so that the brush fits on the shiny area.
- Ctrl-click an area in the image that contains the same color that you want the shiny spot to be later.
- Then click on the shiny spot in your picture.
- Under "Tools" and "Painting Tools", select "Smear". Set the opacity to around 40 to 60.
- Hold down the mouse button and move over the glossy areas to mattify them.
- With the menu item "File" and "Export" you can save your image as a JPG file on your hard drive.
