Gimp hangs up - you can do that
With Gimp you can edit images like the professionals - and it is child's play. If the program freezes, this may be due to too many installed fonts. In this practical tip we will tell you what you can do about it.
Gimp hangs up - what to do?
If the program suddenly freezes when starting, this is often no cause for concern. The following tips will help you solve the problem:
- If Gimp hangs when starting the program, it is often because you have installed a large number of fonts.
- During this time, Gimp also does not react to your entries, so it appears that the program has hung up.
- In this case you can download the free version of Gimp Portable. You can then conveniently take it with you on your USB stick and run it. Start the version after the download. Installation is not necessary.
- With this version you can continue working comfortably. Alternatively, you can start Gimp without fonts. To do this, right-click on the Gimp shortcut and select "Properties". Add the "--no-fonts" command in the "Target" field and confirm with "OK". Now you can start Gimp, but you cannot insert any text.
- In most cases, it may already help if you reinstall the program. Make sure that you download and install the latest version of Gimp.
- You should also run Gimp as an administrator. To do this, right-click on the shortcut and select "Run as administrator".
We will explain what you can do if Gimp starts slowly in the next practical tip.
