Make the background transparent with Gimp - step-by-step instructions
If you have an image, for example a logo, and want the background to be transparent, you must first select the background without the logo.
- Now press [Ctrl] and [C] on your keyboard and then [Ctrl] and [V] to create a floating selection. With a click on the eye, you can now hide the level below your selection.
- To see the logo, you have to right-click on the floating level and then name it "To new level". Now you have made the background of the logo transparent.
- The most important step now follows: Saving. To do this, go to "File"> "Export as". It is important here that you do not select a JPEG file because this does not reflect the transparency and the background is always shown in white. Save the image as a PNG file. Then the background will remain transparent.
- Note: If the background does not become transparent when you remove it, click on the "Layers" item in the menu bar at the top. Under "Transparency" you will now find the "Add Alpha Channel" option.
