Gimp: Blur the background - so it'll work
If you want to blur the background of a picture, this of course also works with Gimp. We'll show you exactly how to do it.
Blur background in gimp
- Open the picture and select the "free selection" in the toolbox on the left. Alternatively, you can try the magic wand.
- With individual mouse clicks you can now mark out the area that should be armed or disarmed. If you hold down the Shift key, several areas can be marked.
- Once you have selected the sharp area, select the "Invert" option in the "Selection" menu. This is how the area is selected that should appear blurred at the end.
- Now click on the "Blur" category under "Filters" at the top of the menu bar. Here you will find several tools that create a blur.
- For example, select the "Gaussian blur" and change the values here. Experiment a little until you are satisfied with the result in the preview image.
