Gimp: adjust contrast - how it works
The free image editing software Gimp offers all options. You can also adjust the contrast of a photo with Gimp. In this practical tip, we will show you how.
Adjust brightness and contrast manually
- Open the Gimp software on your PC.
- Via "File"> "Open" you load the image to be edited in Gimp.
- Go to "Colors" and then to "Brightness / Contrast".
- Move the slider at "Brightness" and at "Contrast" to the desired position.
- Confirm the change with "OK".
You can often achieve even better results with this: Tone correction with the pipettes
- Under "Colors" go to "Values".
- Now click on the left eyedropper symbol and mark the darkest part of the photo in the picture. In this way, the left controller jumps to a specific point under "Source values".
- Do the same with the right eyedropper symbol, but you have to mark the brightest point in the picture.
- This is how you create the best possible contrast in your image. Of course, you can also move the controllers manually under "Source values".
- Confirm the change with "OK".
